We had chance this week to see two Royal Navy aircraft carriers that are currently under construction. There’s the Queen Elizabeth, due to become operational in 2020, and Prince of Wales, due in 2022. They were both parked side by side at the MOD base at Portsmouth. This was an unusual sight, as it’s very rare them being together in docks.
The carriers are 920 ft long and displace 65,000 tons apiece. They both feature a new ski jump to assist jet takeoff. This has replaced the old catapults. Each of the carriers can carry 36 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters and 4 Helicopters.
Amazing engineering for a ship the size of 3 football pitches.

It provides corrosion protection, seals bearings from water and contamination, retains its structure and consistency while in service and remains stable under high shear and high temperature. It will not emulsify and will perform exceptionally well in wet applications. It is virtually waterproof!
Tom-Pac® Bearing Gel is applied in the same manner as conventional grease, with the bearing cavity being filled to approximately 1/2 capacity in most cases.

Well what a lovely start to the week. First job for one of our engineers today was at the one and only Emmerdale Studio Experience. Emmerdale was first aired on 16th October 1972 and is still going strong. Originally titled Emmerdale Farm until 1989, then it was simply titled Emmerdale.
The machine we were called to was a Narrow Isle Scissor, this is used in and around the studio to help get the set ready for the world to see. As always our brilliant engineer on one of our mobile workshops had the machine back up and running in no time, so all is good and the show can go on.
Sadly he did not get to meet any of the cast, he was there way too early for that.
Now on to the next, we have to keep the hydraulic world moving.
